Nomadic Nurses is a medical staffing service for travel RNs (registered nurses). The service compares contracts between various companies and recruiters to find the best deal on assignments for clients. Our current goal is to help staff nurses take the leap into travel nursing!
Nomadic Nurses was conceptualized by Gordon Arnott, CEO & Founder after spending several years as an ER travel nurse throughout the U.S. Gordon is exceptionally talented at medicine and is in the top 10% ER/ICU Trauma Nurses in the country— but it takes more than one person to bring a start-up to life. He approached me in July of 2016 needing help with the business infrastructure and organizational strategy to move forward.
Nomadic Nurses aims to address unsatisfied needs of professional travel nurses and build new business models creating value around those needs.

Business Model Canvas
The Business Model Canvas is a shared language for describing, visualizing, assessing, and changing business models. Developing the canvas for Nomadic Nurses included identifying the nine building blocks, each covering the four main areas of a business: customers, offer, infrastructure, and financial viability.
The blueprint we developed from concept to prototype include Nomadic Nurses' customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships, and cost structure
Free as a Business Model
Receiving something free of charge had always been an attractive value proposition. Any marketer or economist will confirm that the demand generated at a price of zero is many times higher than the demand generated at one cent or any other price point.
The term “freemium” was coined by Jarid Lukin and stands for business models, mainly Web-based, that blend free basic services with paid premium services. The nature of the staffing industry places the majority of revenue streams deriving from intermediation services performed on behalf of the contracting hospital. This allows Nomadic Nurses to price our basic service at zero as well as paid premium services to “pro users”.
Customer-Driven: adopting the customer perspective is our guiding principle for the entire business model design process. Customer perspectives inform our choices regarding the value our service creates, the relationship with our users, and how we generate revenue.

In September of 2017, the Nomadic Nurses start-up project was effectively put on hold while the founding members focus on finishing medical school. After months of working to create Nomadic Nurses and bring it forth into reality, it as it has slowly become part of myself. However, at this time, Nomadic Nurses has taken a backseat for those involved and will effectively be on pause (more or less) due to constraints.
This past year has been an amazing experience, starting with the mobilization of this project to set the stage, the research and analysis of the elements needed to understand our business model; complete immersion into the design, and generating and testing viable options to bring to customers.
Moving forward, we are looking at our constraints, the market forces, and how we should change in light of a changing healthcare environment.
